For over 13 years, one cause has brought our team, and the communities we serve, together like no other. This summer, that long-standing commitment reached a new high, as our total fundraising for the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research UK (FPWR UK) sailed past £202,000.
Helping to get us there was team member Marie Eaton, who marked the occasion by throwing herself out of a plane. Earlier this month, Zac and Marie were joined by a group of Almond Family Pubs colleagues for a sponsored skydive, raising £4,332 for the charity. It is not the first time Marie has taken to the skies for the cause, either: she has previously completed a wing walk, strapped to the top of a biplane, all in the name of fundraising.
The skydive followed hot on the heels of what has become the beating heart of our charity calendar: the annual One Small Step Pub Walk. Now in its 13th year, the walk has grown from a modest gathering of 130 people into a genuine community event. This July, 500 walkers took part, completing a route around four of our pubs and raising £14,364 on its own.
Over the years, the walk has been joined by an ever-growing roster of fundraising events: Christmas Light Switch Ons, 10k runs, triathlons, a military assault course and even a twilight walk up Snowdon, as staff and customers alike have found new and increasingly adventurous ways to raise money for FPWR UK.
With the total now past £202,000, we have no plans to slow down, and the search is already on for next year’s fundraising challenge!

Our brave fundraisers from across Almond Family Pubs have all taken a leap of faith from 15,000 feet. All it took was a full minute of free-falling before parachuting back to earth, all in aid of FPWR UK, the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research UK, with James and Doug Almond surprising the team on the day and watching on.
Their efforts mean we’ve hit an incredible milestone: over £200,000 raised for FPWR UK by our teams and customers since 2014. It’s a truly amazing sum, and one we’re in awe of reaching.

The awards, organised by CN Chartered Accountants, drew over 100 entries across 13 categories this year, with judging taking place on Friday 24th July. To be named a finalist in any category would have meant a lot. To be in the running for four is something the whole team is genuinely proud of.

Our summer spritz menu is on at all five Almond Family Pubs
Saturday 1st August is National Spritz Day, and there’s really only one way we’re marking it. Spritzes have been on the cocktail menu all summer and they’ve been flying out, so here’s what’s in the glass.
Top of the pile, no surprises, is the classic Aperol: bright orange with an orange slice, and just the thing whatever the sky’s doing. Close behind are the Limoncello, sharp and fresh with lemon, and the Hugo, a lighter, floral one with elderflower and mint. All three come tall over ice with prosecco and soda, and all three are serving at every pub.
On top of that, each of our pubs has its own spritz list with a few local twists and alcohol-free options, so there’s a glass for everyone. Book a table to raise one with us, or just drop in. Cheers.

We’re delighted to share that The Station House in Cheadle Hulme has been awarded a top 5-star Food Hygiene Rating following its very first inspection. It’s a fantastic result, and a real credit to the team who have worked so hard to get everything right from day one.
It’s a proud moment for the whole group, because it means every one of our five pubs now holds the highest possible rating. The Fletchers Arms, Puss in Boots, the Spread Eagle, the Jolly Sailor and The Station House have all been awarded the full five stars.
The Food Hygiene Rating is given by the Food Standards Agency and runs from 0 to 5, with 5 being the very best. It looks at how food is handled and prepared, the cleanliness and condition of the premises, and how well each kitchen manages its food safety day to day. You’ll spot the green and black sticker in the window of each of our pubs, and you can always check a rating online too.
For us, a five-star score is the minimum we expect, but it’s still very much worth celebrating. It doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of the daily care, attention and pride our teams put into every shift, long before any inspector walks through the door.
A huge congratulations to the team at The Station House, and an enormous thank you to every one of our teams across all five pubs for their constant care and commitment.
The pressures facing hospitality are real, and yesterday we were grateful for the chance to talk about the headwinds our industry faces.
Tom Morrison, MP for Cheadle, asked to meet our directors because he wanted to hear directly from people in hospitality about the challenges we’re up against. Joining Tom were James and Doug Almond, The Station House general manager Zac, and Niall McCloskey from Joseph Holt.
Over lunch at The Station House, we set out how hard the current climate makes it for businesses like ours to plan ahead, asked for clarity on the changes to business rates, and championed the #VATsTheProblem campaign for a fairer rate of VAT for hospitality.
Pubs support thousands of local jobs and hold communities together – we’re thankful to Tom for taking the time to listen to our concerns, as we would be to anyone working to help our industry.

We’re looking for someone with experience in a supervisory or management role in hospitality, a warm and natural way with people, and the drive to keep raising the standard.
