Puss in Boots, finalist for Best Pub for Families in Britain

Date: 17/06/2026

We’re proud to announce that the Puss in Boots has been shortlisted for Best Pub for Families at the Great British Pub Awards 2026, one of the most respected accolades in the UK hospitality industry.

Each year, hundreds of pubs from across the country enter the Great British Pub Awards, organised by The Morning Advertiser, putting themselves through a rigorous judging process designed to recognise excellence, atmosphere and outstanding performance. We’ve been named one of just six finalists in the Best Pub for Families category – and the only pub in the North West to make that shortlist.

The recognition comes just weeks after the Puss in Boots reopened following its biggest transformation to date. In May, the pub unveiled a brand-new look after a joint investment of over £400k from Almond Family Pubs and Robinsons Brewery. Working with architects Fusion by Design, the refurbishment set out to keep the traditional character of the pub while giving it a more elevated, modern feel – while keeping all of the things that make us perfect for every generation of the family to join us.

The reopening also brought a fresh summer menu – dishes such as Panko Fried Feta Salad, Teriyaki Salmon Bowls and Steak Frites sitting alongside pub classics and the pub’s daily carvery, as well as our much-loved children’s menu. With something for all the family, as well as a extensive drinks selection from our partners at Robinsons Brewery, and our children’s play area, we couldn’t be happier to have been nominated.

James Almond, director at Almond Family Pubs, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to see the Puss in Boots shortlisted for Best Pub for Families. To be recognised on a national stage, and as the only finalist in the category from the North West, is a real credit to Nick and the whole team. The Puss is a community pub Offerton can truly be proud of, somewhere families of every age feel welcome. To see that recognised so soon after reopening means a great deal to us.”

Nick Bateson, Co-General Manager alongside newly appointed Naomi Proudfoot, said; “I couldn’t be prouder of the team. We’ve always been a proper family pub, and that’s never changed. This nomination belongs to our regulars and their families as much as it does to us.”

The Puss in Boots, on Nangreave Road in Offerton, has been at the heart of its community ever since Almond Family Pubs took it over 16 years ago. Its place on this year’s shortlist puts it among the very best family pubs in the country.

The hard work isn’t over yet. Over the summer, the judges will visit each shortlisted pub in person, with a final panel interview to come before the results are decided. The winners will be announced on Wednesday 23 September at a ceremony at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, bringing together leading pub and hospitality operators from across the country to celebrate the very best in the industry. Please wish us the best of luck.
